Former Chelsea and Italy forward Gianluca Vialli dies aged 58

Former Chelsea and Italy forward Gianluca Vialli has died at the age of 58.

Vialli was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 but was given the all clear a year later. He was recently working with the Italian national team, but took a step back from his duties when his health deteriorated.

“At the end of a long and difficult conversation with my amazing team of oncologists, I have decided to suspend, temporarily, my current and future professional commitments,” he said on December 14. “The goal is to use all my energies to help my body recover from this stage of illness, so that I can face new adventures as soon as possible and share them with all of you.”
