For the second time in this month, Mumbai’s case positivity rate rises to 15 per cent

On June 14, for the first time since January, the TPR reached 15.58 per cent with 1,724 people, of whom 11,065 tests were conducted, of whom COVID-19 was detected. The next day, a total of 2,293, out of 17,139 persons tested, were found positive for the virus. The TPR was 13.3 per cent. On Thursday, the number of tests came down to 15,656, with the TPR climbing to 15.1 per cent.

Of the newly detected Covid patients, 105 had to be hospitalised. As of June 16, the number of patients requiring ICU treatment increased to 104. Of the 4,366 beds kept in dedicated COVID hospitals, 367 were occupied.

“It has been observed that there has been a sudden spike in the recent Covid positive cases in Mumbai, accounting for about 60 per cent. “The patients have mild symptoms and only a few require admission,” said Dr Sunil Jain, consultant and head of emergencies at Jaslok Hospital.
Meanwhile, the state recorded 4,255 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the last 24 hours.

According to the latest report of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, two cases of BA.5 have been reported from Nagpur. One is a 29-year-old male while the other is a 54-year-old female.

He tested positive for Covid-19 on 6 and 9 June. The patients had travel history to Kerala and Mumbai respectively last week. Both were vaccinated and cured in home isolation.
