On the night of Deepawali on the Singhu border, when the farmers were engaged in paying tribute by lighting two lamps in the name of the farmers killed in the agitation, the farmers’ huts caught fire in front of the TDI Kundli. It is said that the incident of arson started with a trolley parked there, which was converted into a tent. Then there was a loud explosion, which is being told that the cylinder or the tire of the trolley burst. The farmers were horrified by the explosion. Within no time the fire spread to the nearby huts. These three huts are being told of farmers of village Chala Pala, Lahsada district Nawanshahr Punjab. The farmers came out of the huts after the information of the fire, but the goods filled in them were burnt to ashes.

Fire tenders reached the spot as soon as the information about the arson was received. Earlier, farmers were also trying to control the fire. The wind was blowing strong and farmers were worried that the fire might spread to other nearby huts. It could have caused a bigger accident. When the fire brigade personnel reached the spot and started pouring water on the fire, the farmers got scared. Because in the huts where the fire broke out, the power supply was on. In such a situation, there was a fear of getting electrocuted by the water cannon. After much effort, the fire brigade brought the fire under control.

This year there have been 7 incidents of arson along the Singhu border. Thankfully there was no major loss of life or property. On 19 March 2021, a cylinder caught fire at the border. Due to the fire, the tent and all the belongings kept in it got burnt to ashes. In an attempt to extinguish the fire, a farmer’s hands, feet and mouth were also burnt. After this, on 23 July, three pandals of farmers caught fire. The fire has damaged the houses of farmers built in two pandals and one trolley near the pandal of langar on the Kundli border. About a month’s ration, chairs, mattresses and other items of dozens of farmers were burnt to ashes. The special thing is that within 10 minutes, another pandal built after about 5 huts caught fire, due to which many things were burnt to ashes.
