Family speaks out after thieves break into home, steal keys and car

PLYmouth/Gilford, CT (WFSB) – An accident involving a stolen SUV in Plymouth on Thursday night is linked to a vehicle theft along the shoreline.

Just after 6 p.m. Thursday, Plymouth Police responded to an accident on South Main Street near Greystone Road.

When officials arrived, it was determined that one of the cars involved was a 2020 BMW X5 that was reported to have been stolen from Madison.

Plymouth Police asked residents to stay inside their homes after a stolen SUV crashed.

The accused had already fled.

That’s when the police asked the residents of the area to stay inside their homes as a precaution.

Searches were conducted in the area with the help of Waterbury Police Department K9.

After several hours, the search was called off due to weather and lighting conditions.

Police told residents if they saw anything suspicious to call 911.

One of the suspects was said to be a tall, skinny male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

On Thursday night, Guilford police said the SUV stole suspects are linked to burglaries and car thefts that have occurred in their city, as well as Madison and Branford.

Earlier on Thursday, Guilford police posted a photo of a suspect who broke into a house in Guilford, stole car keys and a car, as well as credit cards, electronics, wallets and other items.

Guilford police said in a post: “These brazen criminals broke into Guilford’s home at about 6 a.m. this morning. They didn’t care whether the owners were in the house, whether there was a dog in the house or it was daylight and They can be seen.” On Facebook.

A family hit by these brazen criminals, speaking exclusively with Channel 3, said that they woke up to a terrifying surprise on Thursday morning. His laptop, car and keys were all gone.

It was around 6 in the morning when a family suddenly heard a noise.

“I initially thought it was garbage pick-up. I was half asleep and it did not record to me that it was not the day for him,” said one of the victims, who was not being identified .

It wasn’t until an hour later that he went downstairs and found out what had really happened.

“Took all the car keys and right above that drawer, there was some computer equipment on it which they took. He ignored some other computer equipment but went to a nearby closet and took my wife’s purse,” he said.

The homeowner is hoping the suspects will be caught, but he is not alone.

Another victim’s car was stolen in nearby Madison.

Guilford Police believe that both the incident and the accident at Plymouth are all linked.

“We are doing as much as we can with the equipment given to us, our patrols are very active. “When there are a lot of incidents like this, we have a lot of visibility patrols in the midnight shift,” Deputy Chief of Guilford Police Christopher Massey said.

Police say it is unusual for criminals to go inside homes for keys. Therefore, anyone caught could face charges of burglary and theft.

After the car theft, the suspects went to Nougat where they used a stolen credit card and then left two of the three stolen cars in Waterbury.
