On Friday evening, DD Gutenplan, editor of the Nation, issued a statement calling Fahd’s arrest “a transparent attack on the freedom of the press”.

News of his arrest is expected to spark further condemnation from international press bodies and rights-advocacy groups.

in a statement to The QuintHuman Rights Watch (HRW) South Asia director Meenakshi Ganguly said, “The repeated targeting of journalists for reporting uncomfortable issues is truly shocking,” the statement read. “Indian authorities may dispute facts, but when they begin to use counter terrorism, sedition or other laws against the media, it suggests that there is something to hide, that when rights are violated, So instead of giving reforms, the government wants to silence the messenger and ensure accountability.”
