Ex-serviceman accused of killing four dies by suicide in Gurgaon jail: Police

A 65-year-old ex-serviceman, who was arrested for allegedly killing his daughter-in-law and three family members of her tenant at Rajendra Park on August 25, committed suicide in Bhondsi jail on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said investigation proceedings have been initiated and a magistrate is conducting a judicial inquiry. Police said that as per preliminary information, he was found dead at 6.40 am in the washroom of Barrack No 3 of the jail when the jail authorities could not trace him during the daily roll call.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhondsi police station Jagbir Singh said, “The incident took place between 3 am and 4 am. No note has been recovered so far.”

On August 25, the 65-year-old accused had come to the police station with a knife in his hand and had confessed to killing his daughter-in-law and three members of the tenant’s family, including their nine-year-old daughter. Daughter. The tenant’s second daughter, aged 3, had survived the alleged attack and was admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital with a stabbing. Two days later, he was sent to Bhondsi jail on 27 August.

The wife of the accused was also arrested for allegedly accompanying him while he had killed the four and was part of the conspiracy.

In subsequent investigation, the police had said that the accused had disclosed that he suspected that his daughter-in-law had an extramarital affair with his tenant and committed the crime as it harassed him.

The police had registered an FIR for murder on the complaint of the tenant’s family as they alleged that they had a dispute with the accused over rent. The family of the accused’s daughter-in-law had also alleged that he was eyeing a conspiracy in her name and killed her to usurp her.
