The Hague: Cough medicines containing the chemical pholcodine should be banned because of the risk of potentially fatal allergic reactions in people under general anaesthetic, the European Union’s drug regulator said on Friday.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended that treatments containing pholcodine, used in adults and children to treat dry cough, should be withdrawn from sale.
