Ethiopian man identified as victim of deadly riverside shooting, suspect in custody

RIVERSIDE, MO (KCTV) — A 39-year-old man has died and a suspect remains in custody after a rare murder in Riverside.

Officers responded to a shooting call at around 12:40 pm in the 4600 block of NW Gateway Avenue.

After reaching, they found the victim near a vehicle parked next to the gas pumps in Quicktrip.

The victim, identified as Tariku Fitte, was declared brought dead on the spot.

Friends say that Fight Ebenezer was a member of the Oromo Church.

Members of his church said he immigrated to the Kansas City area from Ethiopia more than a decade ago and made it his mission to help the new immigrants adapt.

About 50 people gathered outside the Riverside Police Department to mourn the loss.

Police would not say whether the man was shot at the Quicktrip or was taken to a gas station after being shot elsewhere.
