Sarina Wiegmann on facing Italy, who have lost four games in a row in all competitions: “Italy is a very good team. If you look at the results, they must have been a bit disappointing for them, but I think they did some reasonable things.” Games have been played.

“What they do tactically is they do different things in the game that will challenge us – sometimes a little high press, sometimes a little deep, they do different things when they are in possession.

“So for us, it is good for us to adapt to that and as a team constantly scan what they do and be proactive in that so that we can control the game. It will be a good challenge for us.”

England v Italy: Team news!

Wiegman has selected an interesting squad, with notable debuts in Katie Robinson, Laura Combs, Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park as well as Rachel Daly (we think) as a striker. Daly played at left-back during the Euros but is joint top scorer with 10 goals for Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League this season, where she plays up front.

Apart from Daly, there is a lot of versatility in this team. Charles, Carter and Greenwood could play in the back four, so Wigman’s line-up could look slightly different once he takes to the pitch.

Keira Walsh, as expected, returned from illness, while Alex Greenwood captained the team.
