A malnourished dog in Kelowna, BC, is safe and sound after being found in horrific conditions.
BC SPCA An Australian shepherd, Noelle, is found chained to a wall in a freezing cold basement with no heat or insulation, emaciated and very pregnant.
“This poor mom was in an area of the basement that was cordoned off with plywood and a fence,” says Eileen Drever, BC SPCA senior officer.
“She was exposed to freezing temperatures and had no protection from the cold except for a sprinkling of alfalfa straw and some dirty towels. She was surrounded by piles of excreta.”
The dog was immediately taken to a veterinarian for examination. Noelle was brought to the Kelowna Animal Center of the BC SPCA where she gave birth to seven healthy puppies.
The SPCA then began a search for a foster parent who would be able to care for the mother and her seven puppies. Even though it was a challenge, a local foster stepped up and took the family of dogs home.
Foster parents Martin and Linda say Noelle is doing well and loves taking care of their pups.
“She feeds them, cleans them and even cleans up after them, which we haven’t seen in the other moms in our household.”
The family of dogs will soon be up for adoption to families of their own.
The foster parents say that the happy pups love to play with their toys, are cuddly and very cuddly.
Once Noelle is spayed and fully recovered, she will also be available for adoption at the Kelowna Animal Centre.
