Economy week ahead: Inflation and retail sales in focus

The National Federation of Independent Business will release data from its monthly survey that gauges optimism among small businesses. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal expect to see the survey’s index fall slightly in June. The survey’s reading of near-term expectations for future business conditions fell to its lowest point on record in May.

Wednesday

The US consumer-price index for June will offer a key inflation reading ahead of the Federal Reserve’s July 26-27 meeting. Economists polled have estimated that inflation has picked up in June, both before and from June of last year. CPI up 8.6% In the year that ended in May, the fastest pace in more than four decades.
