e-shram registration tops 14 crore; Most of the people earn less than 10 thousand rupees

The Labor Ministry on Saturday said that more than 14 crore workers have registered since the registration was enabled on the e-shram portal four months ago. Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav tweeted, “The e-shram portal crosses the 14 crore mark in just 4 months… Congratulations to all those who made this possible.”

As per the data shared by the minister, 14,02,92,825 workers in the informal sector registered on the e-shram portal.

The top five states in terms of number of registrations on e-shram are Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand, the latest data from the portal shows.

In terms of gender, 52.56 per cent of the registered people are female workers while 47.44 per cent are men.

According to the data, about 42.64 percent of the registered workers are Other Backward Classes (OBC), followed by 26.45 percent from the general category, 22.54 percent from the scheduled castes and 8.38 percent from the scheduled tribes.

More than 94 per cent of the registered workers have an income of Rs 10,000 per month or less, while more than 4 per cent have an income of Rs 10,001 to Rs 15,000 per month.

About 51 per cent of the registered workers are agricultural labourers, followed by the construction sector at 11 per cent, domestic and domestic workers at 10 per cent and the apparel segment at 6.5 per cent.

About 61 per cent of the registered workers are in the age group of 18 years to 40 years, 23 per cent 40 years to 50 years and 12 per cent above 50 years of age. About four per cent of the registered workers are in the age group of 16 to 18 years.

The e-shram portal, which was launched on August 26, will for the first time provide information on workers in the unorganized sector including migrant workers, gig workers, agricultural workers, Anganwadi workers, street vendors, domestic workers. As of now, such a database is mainly available only to organized workers through workers registered under EPFO. The database will be analyzed to check any pre-registration workers with the formal sector through Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) as both the registrations have a common format of 12 digit identification number, Universal Account Number (UAN) . ,
