Kolkata: BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh on Friday (August 26, 2022) courted another controversy by saying that the day is not far when TMC leaders will be “publicly beaten up” for their involvement in various corruption cases in the state. . Known for making controversial remarks, Ghosh said TMC leaders would soon face “public outrage” for their alleged involvement in various scams, including animal smuggling and SSC scams.

“The day is not far when TMC leaders will be publicly thrashed. The people of the state are fed up with this corrupt TMC rule. He will soon have to face public anger for being involved in various scams,” he said while addressing a protest rally.

“Only two TMC leaders have been arrested and the party is crying over it. The day is not far when the entire TMC leadership will be behind bars. No Trinamool Congress leader will be spared, they will have to pay the price for their sins.

On August 11, the CBI had arrested TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal from Bolpur for not cooperating in the investigation of cattle smuggling case. The ED had on July 23 arrested suspended senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee in connection with the school recruitment scam.

Ghosh’s comments drew a sharp reaction from the TMC, which accused the BJP leader of trying to “mutilate the atmosphere” of the state.

“Dilip Ghosh has no importance in his party now. He is making such comments to ensure his presence in the political arena of Bengal. But the worst part is that such comments will further spoil the atmosphere in the state,” said senior TMC leader and MP Saugata Roy.

On Monday, Ghosh had courted controversy by attacking the CBI and wondering what action it has taken in relation to cases of violence following the assembly elections in Bengal in 2021 in which around 60 BJP workers were killed. His remarks came a day after he had created a flutter by saying that some CBI officers were joining hands with the ruling TMC in the state. The Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry into the post-poll violence.

After Ghosh’s remarks, the BJP central leadership had cautioned him and asked him to refrain from making such controversial remarks in future.
