Derek Carr makes light of Raiders exit, looks ahead to new team: ‘Going to give that city everything I got’

Derek Carr was red-hot during Thursday night’s 2023 Pro Bowl skills contest in what will likely be his final performance Las Vegas Raiders. However, the veteran quarterback has no reservations about the future and says he’s looking for a team “that’s on course to win the Super Bowl.”

Carr, 31, was named Tuesday as an alternate for his fourth Pro Bowl Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrows, Despite having already bid their farewells to a team they’ve called home for the past nine seasons.

He helped the AFC take an early 9–3 lead over the NFC after totaling 31 points in the accurate passing event.

At the end of the event, Carr was asked during an interview on the ESPN broadcast if he had ever been “so hot” in Las Vegas.

“Not so hot. Maybe that’s why I’m going elsewhere,” Carr said with a smile.

Carr out of last two games of the regular season after going 9–6 this season. He said Thursday that he has no plans to extend the February 15 deadline that would help the Raiders facilitate a trade, adding that he doesn’t believe “that would be best for me.”

The Raiders have until that date to trade or release him or his contract will be guaranteed and Las Vegas will have to pay him $40.4 million over the next two years.

“We have choices, decisions to make. It’s an exciting time, it really is. I’m grateful for my time in Las Vegas and Oakland, and I will always be thankful and grateful,” Carr told NFL Network.

“But there comes a time when it’s just time to move on and this is the time. And that’s why I’m excited, can’t wait to see where God takes us next. I want to give that city all that it is.” I’m going to give what I have.”

Carr has never won a playoff game for the Raiders, but says his next stop will be a team looking for a big win — even if it takes time.

“Just a team that’s going to win a Super Bowl. I think for me — I just want to win. I’ve thrown for numbers, been to Pro Bowls and it’s fun — I’m so grateful, but so I don’t play and so for me, I’m just looking at a team that has the pieces and if I have to add anything that I can, I would add that hopefully we’re in those teams to try Be one of them and do that.”
