Delhi High Court refuses urgent hearing against stopping prayers at mosque outside Qutub Minar

The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to pass an order for urgent listing of a petition by the Archaeological Survey of India challenging the alleged halt of prayers at a mosque in South Delhi. The mosque is situated on the periphery of Qutub Minar.

A division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi declined the mention made by a lawyer representing the management committee of the mosque, which is said to be a notified waqf property. The court said the matter be mentioned after it is filed before the registrar or vacation bench next week.

The court was earlier told that people were offering prayers at the mosque regularly but it was suddenly stopped last month despite no notice. The management committee is challenging the authority of the ASI to prevent people from entering and offering prayers in the mosque.

The Mughal Mosque is located at the entrance of the Qutb complex and is separate from the nearby Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. A copy of the petition was not immediately available on Friday.
