Delhi businessman’s cryptocurrency stolen and transferred to Hamas wing: Police

The cyber cell of the Delhi Police said on Monday that the cryptocurrency of a Delhi-based businessman was allegedly stolen and transferred to the wallet of Al-Qassam Brigade, the military wing of the Palestinian organization Hamas.

He said that the matter came to light in 2019 when the businessman informed Paschim Vihar police station that some unidentified persons had fraudulently transferred cryptocurrencies from his wallet.

Police said the cryptocurrency was worth around Rs 30 lakh and its present value is Rs 4 crore. On the orders of a court, the investigation of the case was later transferred to the Cyber ​​Crime Unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber ​​Cell) KPS Malhotra said, “During the investigation, the cryptocurrency trail led to startling facts, that cryptocurrencies ended up in wallets maintained by Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Palestine. organization Hamas and the wallets that have already been confiscated by Israel’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing.The confiscated wallet belongs to Mohamed Nasser Ibrahim Abdullah.

The official said one wallet to which a large chunk of cryptocurrencies has been transferred is being operated out of Giza, Egypt and belongs to Ahmed Marzouk, while the other wallet belongs to Ahmed Qah Safi, a resident of Ramallah, Palestine.

He added that investigations conducted so far showed that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were fraudulently transferred from merchant wallets. Police said that they have recovered all the details of these accounts and some of them were used to finance terror operations, while others were used to access child pornography. PTI
