At least 10 people were killed and 55 wounded in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson after Russian shelling on Saturday, Yaroslav Yanushevich, head of the Kherson region’s military administration, said in a new update on the death toll.

Yanushevich called on Kherson residents to donate blood to help save the lives of those injured in the shelling.

He also said that the Russians used a “Grad multiple-launch rocket system to hit the Kherson city center”, and that 18 of the 55 people killed are currently in critical condition.

The head of the regional administration said no children were among the victims of Saturday morning’s shelling.

At the same time, he reported that five people were killed and 17 wounded on Friday as a result of Russian shelling.

“Among the injured is a six-year-old girl, doctors fought for her life and managed to save her,” Yanushevich said. “But, unfortunately, the six-year-old girl lost her eyes and ears. Her leg is broken. We will take her to Kyiv.”

Yanushevich said shelling of the city continued throughout the day Saturday, especially in areas along the Dnipro River, and that it prevented rescuers from doing their job of clearing debris.

Areas along the Dnieper River, such as Hydropark, Antonivka and Navtohavna, have no heat or electricity. Yanushevich said people living in these areas were under constant heavy shelling and that they “urgently needed to evacuate.”

“It is almost impossible to restore infrastructure in these areas,” Yanushevich said.
