Deadly Seymour hit-and-run suspect caught trying to escape to Mexico

Seymour, CT (WFSB) – An arrest was made earlier this month in a double fatal hit-and-run that occurred at a funeral in Seymour.

Police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Jair Irigoyen-Flores of West Haven.

They got information and arrested him on Wednesday.

Irigoyen-Flores He was arrested while trying to flee the country to his native Mexico.

Irigoyen-Flores was charged with two counts of misconduct with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility involving one death.

His bond is worth $1.5 million.

Seymour police, state officials and local officials address the public after a man responsible for a fatal hit-and-run was arrested.



Police confirmed that they found the vehicle involved in New Haven.

Seymour Police said James and Barbara Tambora were crossing Bank Street on December 10 when an oncoming driver hit the couple and continued on.

A Seymour official had stopped traffic at the time and helped the couple cross the road.

However, the driver of a dark colored Acura SUV accelerated ahead and hit Tamboras.

Police said the driver stopped briefly, but eventually headed toward the city of Seymour and likely reached Route 8.

Barbara Tambora died five days later.

Police said that based on evidence at the scene, they believe that one of the front headlights of the SUV was damaged.

An arrest was made earlier this month in a double fatal hit-and-run at a funeral in Seymour.



He said it was suggestions from the public that helped him trace the suspect.

His son, Kenneth Tambora, said, “The person who made the tip is from my family to you. Thank you. Words can’t express how they thank my family for the people of Connecticut for helping us through this difficult time.” Can’t express my gratitude to you.”

Irigoyen-Flores is due back in court in February.
