Dalit man ‘lynching’ in UP’s Chandauli; main accused arrested

A 22-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly lynched to death in Alinagar area of ​​Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. On the complaint of the victim’s father Brahmpal, an FIR has been registered against 10 named people and several unidentified people at Alinagar police station. Chandauli Superintendent of Police Ankur Agarwal said the main accused Kamla Yadav has been arrested, while raids are on to trace the others.

Police said the incident took place in retaliation two days ago after a temporary shop of a member of the Yadav community caught fire. The community suspected the victim Vishal Paswan and his associates to be responsible for the incident. There was reportedly a dispute over the fact that Paswan was hit on the head with a stick. Police said Paswan fainted and died shortly after.


The two communities reportedly clashed after Paswan’s death, though no casualties were reported. Police intervened, while Paswan’s family placed his body on the road and raised slogans, demanding action against the accused. Local BJP MLA Sadhna Singh met Paswan’s family and assured them of help.

According to the complaint of the victim’s father, Paswan received a call on Saturday morning after which he along with his neighbor Ajay Kumar alias Sheru went to Taranpur intersection. While Paswan was a resident of Taranpur village, the accused are residents of neighboring Sikotia village.
