A team of experts belonging to Mercedes-Benz arrived in Thane from Hong Kong for further investigation and investigation of the car in which Cyrus Mistry was killed. Mistry (54) and his friend Jehangir Pandole were killed on the afternoon of September 4 when their Mercedes GLC 220d 4matic car collided with a road divider in Palghar district of Maharashtra. Two other car occupants – Anahita Pandole (55), who was at the wheel, and her husband Darius Pandole (60) – were injured and admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai. Last week, German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz issued a statement and said it was cooperating with authorities investigating the car crash that led to the death of Cyrus Mistry.
“As a responsible brand that respects customer privacy, our team is cooperating with executives where possible, and we will provide any clarifications directly to them,” the automaker said in a statement. The German auto major said it will continue its ongoing efforts to raise road safety awareness as a responsible manufacturer by equipping its vehicles with the latest safety features and technologies.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole in an unfortunate road accident. Also we are glad to know that Anahita Pandole and Darius Pandole are recovering. We wish him a speedy recovery,” it noted. Earlier in the day, a team from the company collected vehicle data which would be decrypted for further analysis.
Car accident investigation by authorities
Sanjay Mohite, Inspector General of Police, Konkan Range said that other details like tire pressure and brake fluid level of the car will also be checked to ascertain the cause of the accident. The unfortunate vehicle was the 2017 GLC 220d 4MATIC, which is equipped with seven airbags in total. The latest variant of the all-wheel drive model comes with a price tag of upwards of Rs.68 lakhs.
It has a ‘Pre-Safe System’ where the front seat belt can be electrically extended in dangerous situations. According to the Mercedes-Benz India website, the GLC’s Pre-Safe system minimizes the forward displacement of riders while braking or skidding in an imminent accident.
The fatal accident took place on the bridge of the Surya River when the four persons were on their way from Gujarat to Mumbai. A police officer had earlier said that the deceased was not wearing a seat belt, adding that over speeding and an “error of judgment” by the driver caused the accident. Prima facie the luxury car was speeding when the accident took place, the official said.
