Consumer sentiment at record low yet another ominous sign for the economy

Consumer sentiment fell to its lowest point on record, indicating that increased inflation is weighing on Americans’ mood and adding to indicators that point to a slowdown in the world’s largest economy.

The University of Michigan’s gauge of consumer sentiment reached a final reading of 50 in June. It was the lowest reading on record in 1952, and was down from both the initial reading in the first month and May’s 58.4 reading.
