‘Comparing yourself to others almost always leads to discontent’: Anubhav Singh Bassi

“I was a lawyer,” says stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi, originally from Meerut. “Once you’re out of college, every other person’s job will make you feel good. After all, appearances can be deceptive, and especially people with terrible jobs overtime to project professional satisfaction and a sense of importance. work,” he says in a talk at TEDxRGNUL, where his aim was to educate rather than just entertain.

He shares that despite being a good student and proficient in extra-curricular activities throughout school and college, he struggled to find a career that really made him happy. “If you have no passion for your job and you’re not satisfied with the time you sleep in, quit that job,” he advises.

The comedian shared eight lessons with the audience that he believes have all changed in his life. First, he advises everyone to be good friends. He attributes his success as a standup comedian to the support of his friends. “For the next five-six years nothing will work as their friendship. Sometimes, it is easier to tell about your problems to your close friends than to your family members…”

Then he suggests that you use the time your family gives to show you what you do or want to do, because in the end, actions speak louder than words.

“Don’t compare yourself to others. Once you’re out of college, you’ll love every other person’s job.”

Bassi points out that the undue social pressure of leading a certain kind of life to a certain age is not worth losing sleep in and certainly not worth being sad for. “If you find yourself staying up late at night, worrying about your prospects and unhappy with your job, change five things or six things, but never listen to anyone who says you are out of time,” he says.

He also says that failure “can be overcome as often as it happens”.

Talking about hitting rock bottom, he says, “Have the courage to explore this idea, walk this unfamiliar path, because you have already hit rock bottom. There is nothing to lose. “

In the end he asks everyone not to be his enemy. “Don’t beat yourself up for lack of foresight or a missed opportunity; remember that your career is only one part of your life. You have more to do than a job.”
