This money is to be used to provide education and awareness to the startups Intellectual property As well as the development and implementation of IP strategies.
“Canadian startups are among the most innovative and inventive in the world,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.
“That is why our government is committed to supporting them so that they can better protect and manage their IP.”
Communitech was one of five incubators selected by the consortium, each responsible for a region of the country. The Kitchener Incubator will be asked to provide support for startups in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
“Encouraging and protecting Made-in-Canadian IP is critical to the prosperity of the whole country,” said Chris Albinson, CEO of Communitech.
“Communitech has the experience and talent to play a key role in helping to execute the Government’s IP strategy.”
