Dr Abdul Aziz Al Jarallah
At the Periodic Media Conference for Government Communications, Commerce Minister Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi talked about the increase in prices in the past few years during 2020-2022 AD. He specifically talked about the increase in prices. Al-Qasabi, the minister in commercial goods, including food, said:
– Global events, especially the corona pandemic, led to a global crisis, which represented an increase in demand relative to supply, leading to an increase in prices, followed by the emergence of new mutations of the corona.
Navigation traffic in the Suez Canal is suspended.
– Except for the Russo-Ukrainian War.
– These events affected the supply chain, causing a 6-fold increase in the prices of goods, labor shortages, a fall in the level of production and an increase in the cost of production.
Some countries banned basic commodities, and the prices of poultry and other commodities increased.
Increase in the prices of poultry and eggs in the state as a result of increase in the prices of imported fodder from abroad, which led to increase in its prices at the local level.
Therefore, Trade Minister al-Qasabi determined that the price increase was due to external factors: the two-year coronavirus, the Russo-Ukrainian war that disrupted air, sea and land navigation, increased shipping due to a lack of supplies. Prices, some countries put restrictions on basic goods, these points mentioned by the minister became part of normal events in the world according to their severity and harm. Viruses tour the world seasonally and annually and multiply and vary in their severity. As far as wars are concerned, they do not stop, and our Straits of the Seas, the Suez Canal, the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb are constantly being stopped. Restrictions on basic goods are the problem of every country.
Our country needs a solution to its problems in food security because we cannot meet the needs with every global crisis, and the world is ready to explode every moment, so we need more than one treatment and quick fix for food security. More effective solutions are needed. The inner work of goods and food, and we move on to the production of basic goods so that we are not waiting for what tankers and sea navigation carry for us.
