Clippers’ Russell Westbrook refutes ‘fabricated’ reports on his unhappiness with team

Los Angeles Clippers’ The season ended on Friday after being eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks in six games in the first round.

There is a shadow of uncertainty over the Clippers this offseason. head coach Tyronn Lue Has publicly expressed his desire to remain with the organization for the foreseeable future.

Shortly after Los Angeles’ exit from the postseason, reports surfaced that suggested Westbrook might be willing to leave the Clippers in search of another team that would offer him the opportunity to play a more significant role. Westbuck largely had to come off the bench after the team acquired James Harden at the beginning of the season.

Westbrook appeared to have settled into his role during his first stint with the Clippers full season with the team, and he made it clear on social media that he is satisfied with the way the team used him during the 2023-2024 campaign. Westbrook did not specifically say which report he objected to, but said that anything indicating he was unhappy was “fabricated.”

“I am often the subject of conversation by multiple ‘sources’ and sports news outlets,” Westbrook wrote on Instagram. “I felt the urge to share my real thoughts and words after this season. Understand that everything you’ve read about what I’ve said or not said is likely fabricated. I don’t care about anything. “I’ve never had any trouble sharing my thoughts or opinions, and I choose to keep my thoughts to myself in most cases.”

Westbrook said he understands the “pressure” to “point fingers” after the Clippers’ debut out of playoffs,

“I wanted to share some of my real thoughts with Clippers Nation and all of our fans. This is a difficult time for a lot of people because there are certain expectations placed on them. So, it’s understandable that there’s pressure on them.” Coinciding with or pointing the finger at what many would classify as a disappointing end to our season.”

Westbrook also said that he enjoyed his season with the Clippers, although he “had hoped for a different result.”

He wrote, “I enjoyed my year, and worked hard to bring energy, and a spark to our team with each opportunity I was given.” “I felt I was ready to take on new roles and make some sacrifices in the hopes that it would make our team better. I expected a different outcome, but I also enjoyed working with my teammates during this year.” “Everyone has supported me throughout the season. I’m hopeful that I’ll come back better, stronger, and look forward to playing any role that will put us in the best position to win next season!”

Westbrook has a player option for the 2024–2025 season. He played an average of 22.5 minutes per game during the regular season, averaging 11.1 points and 4.5 assists.
