City shared in a social media post on Friday that they have received reports of unsafe children playing at Regina’s off-leash dog park.

Janine Daradich, manager of planning and partnerships with Citi, said she was made aware of the issue by some users of the off-leash dog park.

She described how users reported that young children were using the dog park as a play area, with no adult supervised.

“It’s not something we hear about very often, but we like to have friendly reminders for our residents on our social media channels every now and then,” Daradich said.

He said this is an opportunity to remind parents and guardians that these types of places are not meant to be used as an area for children to play freely.

“For all of our (dog park) locations, when children are going to the dog park, they must do so with an adult, if they are under 12, just for the safety of everyone,” Daradich he said.

Regina has three off-leash dog parks, including the Kathy Lauritson Memorial Off-Leash Dog Park, Ross Industrial Off-Leash Dog Park, and Mount Pleasant Sports Park.

Seven outdoor boarded rinks are also used as seasonal off-leash areas for pets from May 1 through September 30.
