Christie's book

Christie’s book “Republican Rescue: Saving the Party from Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden” is out Tuesday.

“I called Kellyanne Conway first,” he said, in reference to a former senior Trump adviser who resigned four months ago. ‘ And I said to him: ‘Have you spoken to him? And he said he didn’t. And he said: “I think we both need to call him.” And I said: “Absolutely.”

‘So I called the president’s secretary again,’ Christie continued. ‘Couldn’t pass. Then I called his body boy. Didn’t pick up Then I called the President’s cell phone, and he didn’t pick up.

‘I was desperate to try to contact him, because I felt like what was happening was terrible and was going to be a stain on his presidency, and I wanted him to stand up and stop it,’ he said.

Christie continued: ‘But he didn’t pick up the phone, and so I said what I would have told him privately if it aired on ABC.’

As for Allen, Christie said he wasn’t sure that 1/6 would become a turning point in American history.

‘I’m less sure about it. I think it’s a pivotal moment, but I wouldn’t make it analogous to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor,’ Christie said. ‘I think the significance is different than some people think, the importance to me is that it shows the resilience of our democracy.’

Christie mentioned how by 4 a.m. on January 7 members of Congress were back on the floor to complete the certification of the presidential election.

During a donor event in Las Vegas earlier this month, Christie urged the Republican Party to go ahead with Trump and put behind claims the 2020 presidential election was rigged or plagiarized by Democrats.

“We can no longer talk about past and past elections,” Christie said at the event. ‘No matter where you stand on that issue, wherever you stand, it is over.’

Trump issued a statement in response to Christie’s criticisms of bashing his former aide.

Christie reiterated to Axios that the GOP needs to look beyond 2020 to win future elections, but added that he still considers Trump a friend and would have supported him over Biden.

“If we waste our time because Republicans are talking about an election that we have lost, we are going to lose future elections,” he said, referring to potential Republican contenders for president in 2024. Shouldn’t be put off for Trump’s walk.

“Those who say they will defy Donald Trump have disqualified themselves from being president,” Christie said. ‘If you think you are the best person, you should not neglect anyone.’
