China bets big on Basic chips in self-sufficiency push

China is leading the world in building new chip factories, a step toward achieving greater self-sufficiency in semiconductors that may eventually leave some buyers relying on China for many basic chips now in short supply.

According to chip-industry conglomerate SEMI, as chipmakers around the world race to boost production and ease supply shortages, no country is expanding faster than China, which is due to hit 2024. The company is set to build 31 major semiconductor factories, known as FABs. ,
