A child is in critical condition after the city called an emergency at an apartment complex pool in Winnipeg.

A city spokesman would only say that the crew responded to an “emergency involving a child” at the pool.

He said emergency workers provided medical care at the scene before the child was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Winnipeg police were also called to the scene to assist paramedics.

Officials gave no word on the age or gender of the child or the cause of the emergency.

Neighbors told Global News that they heard a woman scream inside the building at the time of the incident.
