Check-cashing business owner shot dead in Philadelphia: Police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A woman was shot and killed in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon inside a check-cashing business run by her family, police say.

Police say the 67-year-old owner of any check he cashed on the 5800 block of Old York Road in the Ogontz section of the city left the shop just before 12:30 p.m. and then came back around 1 p.m.

A man with a gun went after him.

Police say where he had forcibly placed the money behind a security glass, but there was a violent struggle for the gun.

During that struggle the victim was shot once in the chest. After some time he was declared brought dead on the spot.

The accused absconded after taking money from the cash register.

The woman has not been identified, but neighbors say she was a wife, a mother, a business owner and a member of their community.

Neighbor Sean Robinson said, “When is this going to stop? Like losing innocent people, people trying to work and take care of their families.”

Investigators used a force to remove what looked like a bullet from a metal wall inside the shop.

Police say that the entire incident of robbery and murder happened on the basis of the video captured inside the shop.

Police cordoned off an area of ​​the block and put Chopper 6 overhead.

Jamal Tucker was taking his daughter to the neighborhood day care, which is right next to the check cashing business.

Tucker said, “It seems like people are being insensitive to it. We look at it and we walk past like it’s the norm, and that’s the sad part. People are getting used to it and we don’t have to be.” needed.”

Another nearby business owner says he worries something like this will happen again as the holidays approach.

“With Christmas approaching, you never know what’s going on in people’s minds. So, I just keep my family safe and pray to God,” said the business owner.

Police are on the lookout for a 40-year-old man who was wearing full black at the time of the shooting.
