Chandigarh: 19-year-old student killed, another injured in two-wheeler accident

A 19-year-old BA final year student of Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG)-42 was killed and a fellow student was injured in a road accident on the Sector 35-43 dividing road on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Muskan from Zirakpur, who was riding on an Activa scooter driven by her classmate Prabhjot Kaur from Sector 20. The injured Kaur is admitted in GMSH-16. Her condition is said to be stable but she is not in a position to record her statement. The incident happened around 1:30 pm.

The students were returning from their college after appearing for their ongoing examination. Police said they are investigating whether the two women lost their balance on their own or some other vehicle hit them. Sources said one of the passers-by claimed that the two-wheeler was traveling at a very high speed and was not wearing any safety gear. The victims were taken to GMSH-16 in a police vehicle.

Later Muskan was referred to PGI due to serious head injury. He died within a few minutes during treatment at PGI. By then his family members including father and brother had reached PGI.

Muskan’s father Uma Chand said, “This was the first time my daughter was returning home with someone else instead of a family member. Either me or my son used to come everyday to drop and pick up Muskan from college. This afternoon, I got a call from my daughter asking who is coming to pick her up. I told him that I am sending his elder brother Ashish. She told me that Ashish should come to Sector 20, where she will reach with her friend Prabhjot Kaur. My son reached Sector 20. He called Muskan to his cell. One person was present on Muskaan’s phone, who informed Muskan and another had a road accident and were taken to GMSH-16. We reached GMSH-16. The doctors told me that his condition was serious. I urged the doctors to refer her to PGI. But within a few moments he died in PGI.

Uma Chand runs her own small manufacturing unit in Phase-2, Industrial Area. Muskan was their youngest child after two sons. The injured Prabhjot Kaur is the daughter of the CTU bus driver. SI Rajkumar Singh, in-charge of PP-43, said, “We have started investigation to find out if the two-wheeler hit another vehicle or they lost their balance on their own.” Muskan’s body has been kept in PGI’s mortuary for postmortem. A case was registered in PS 36.
