Center will end MSP, Sidhu warns farmers

Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday warned against the Centre’s “horrendous” plan to ensure assured prices, food security for the poor, government procurement and dismantle the public distribution system. Announcing the withdrawal of three “black” agricultural laws, he said, BJPThe central government is silent on enacting a law to guarantee the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.

Sidhu said, “Today, as we celebrate our victory against the three black laws of the Centre… our real work has just begun. End MSP, end food security for the poor, end government procurement.” And the Centre’s sinister plan to end PDS will continue without agricultural laws. It will be hidden and more dangerous now.”

Sidhu, who urged farmers to continue their fight for assured prices, cautioned that the Modi government was still determined to privatize the purchase, storage and sale of food grains to private players.

“The Centre’s design to give purchase, storage and retail to private capital is still on… there is no word by the Center for MSP legalisation. We are back in June 2020. Need support of Punjab government to save small farmers from corporate takeover – Punjab model is the only way,” he tweeted. Sidhu on Friday termed Modi’s announcement to repeal three agricultural laws as a “step in the right direction” but stressed that MSP is a bigger issue than agricultural laws.

He has been claiming that he has a roadmap for the prosperous future of Punjab, be it in the field of agriculture or industry.
