An blaze at a distillery in southeast Calgary prompted firefighters to respond Tuesday afternoon.

calgary fire department A distillery located in the 1500 block of 34 Avenue SE was reported at around 1:20 p.m. smoke could be seen from the Highfield 16 Fire Station several blocks away from the scene, said police.

A CFD release said the fire captain was immediately on the way to the scene to report the blaze.

About 100 employees were evacuated as the fire alarm system was activated. One employee was reported to be in the building where the explosion occurred but CFD said they escaped without incident.

Fire crews said the blaze occurred in the dry house area of ​​the distillery or in the ductwork of the brewing area. The ductwork was located on the ceiling.

The resulting damage was limited to a large vessel and ductwork on the roof, and the building’s fire suppression system was activated as a result.

The CFD said fire crews would remain at the scene until another hot spot was found. A fire investigator is currently trying to ascertain the exact origin and cause of the blaze.

No one was reported to be injured.
