A 23-year-old man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a July 2022 collision in the Huntington Hills neighborhood of Calgary.

On July 28, 2022 at approximately 2 a.m. a car struck a pedestrian along 4th Street NE between the two entrances to Huntstrom Drive NE

Police said a woman was skateboarding in the southbound lane of 4th Street when a 2005 silver Infiniti M35X sedan driven by a man in his 20s with a passenger was also driving south on the same street .

A police statement said the female pedestrian was struck by a sedan in the southbound lane.

“The vehicle briefly left the road, swerved to reverse and came to a stop on the side of the road. The vehicle went back onto the road, and the driver pulled into a neighboring street and stopped,” the Calgary Police Service said. Gone.

The occupants of the car escaped unhurt and the driver remained at the scene until first responders arrived.

But the woman doing skateboarding died on the spot.

In a news release issued Monday, police said they believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the accident.

Austin James O’Brey, 23, has been charged with operating a vehicle causing death with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80 milligrams.

O’Brey is due in court on February 13.
