Butter-milk Holi to be played in Uttarakhand from today

After two years in Uttarakhand, the Butter Festival will start from Wednesday. Locally known as Andhudi festival, it is traditionally celebrated in Dayara Bugyal (Green Meadow) at an altitude of 11 thousand feet above sea level and spread over 28 sq km. It is the highest venue in the country.

Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan told that in ancient times it was celebrated by cattle rearers. Through this he expresses his gratitude to nature for protecting himself and his cattle. Then it was known as Andhudi. For a few years, its name became Butter Festival. Now it is being celebrated in a grand manner. CM Pushkar Dhami and Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj will also participate in this. Manoj Rana, president of Dayara Tourism Festival Committee Rathal, said that the Andhudi festival is a joint festival of local residents and tourists. In this, along with the local people, tourists from all over the country and abroad will be seen playing Holi of milk, whey and butter.

Ishta deities are offered with milk and curd
Manoj explains that every year the villagers of Raithal traditionally organize the Adhuri festival on the sankranti of Bhadrapada month at Dayara Bugyal, which is spread over an area of ​​about 28 sq km, at a distance of eight km from the Raithal village of Bhatwadi block. On this day, villagers gather in their huts located at Dayara Bugyal, while enriching livestock, worship their favorite deities and offer products like milk, curd, whey, butter, etc. obtained from cattle.

This time the number of foreign tourists is less. The reason for this is the reduced international tourism after Corona. Chairman Manoj Rana says that apart from abroad, tourists also come from different states of the country. This time tourists have also come from Maharashtra and South Indian states.

With this festival, villagers come down from the mountains with their cattle.
The villagers of Rathal arrive in summer with cattle to migrate to huts built at Dayara Bugyal and other places. In such a situation, the grass rich in medicinal properties growing in Bugyal, the advantage of favorable environment is found in milk production. From high altitude areas begin to return from September onwards. Before that this festival is celebrated.
