Bullets enter West Mobile family home after a barrage of bullets in celebration of the new year

Mobile, ala (Wala) — Despite the mobile police sending a stern warning — the New Year was not without celebratory bullets. A West Mobile family first discovered it – after a bullet hit them from the roof of their house. This happened in the 8100 block of Tanner Williams Road.

“There were a lot of shots fired before midnight. You could see it from afar. I didn’t get to it until 12 o’clock. So I was in bed. Everyone was in bed,” recalled Mercedes Jens.

New Year’s Eve was a low-key event for Mercedes and her family that quickly turned frenetic four minutes after midnight.

Mercedes said, “It looked like someone was knocking on my door. And I think because I was half asleep, it didn’t register that they were bullets. I opened my door and there was no one there. I turned it off.”

His sister also heard this down the hall. You can listen to their conversation on Baby Monitor:

“Oh, it’s probably just a cat or something. – But someone was knocking on my door? – I felt like someone was knocking on my door.”

Moments later, his sister discovered a hole in the ceiling of the hall of the mobile home and a gold tablet on the floor.

“This bullet hole is where it came from. You could hear on that baby monitor where it came from. And then it went down and it looks like this is the door here,” Mercedes showed us.

Her two children are sleeping just a few feet away. If you listen to the baby monitor, you can see here exactly when the pill enters the house.

“It could have killed one of my kids. That was my biggest fear. I got very angry, but very nervous all at once because is there anything else going to come off my roof? It’s senseless to me.” I don’t understand it,” Mercedes said.

Mercedes called 911. Mobile Police is now investigating, but they still fear it might happen again and this is the message:

“This is not a political message. If you’re a gunsmith, be a responsible gun owner. And it’s as simple as that. I own a firearm, but I use it at the border. And if it comes , then I’ll use it to defend myself. But nothing more,” Mercedes said. “I’m not going to do celebratory shoots in the air or in the ground because that’s exactly what can happen. Your stray bullet could hit someone. It could hit someone’s house. It could kill someone. “
