Two schoolboys have been charged with murder following the death of a 16-year-old transgender girl in an English village.

A boy and a girl, both aged 15, have been charged with the murder of Brianna Ghey, who was found dead in a park in Warrington in the north-west of the country on Saturday afternoon. The two teenagers cannot be named for legal reasons.

Police said members of the public contacted emergency services at 3.13pm that day after Ghe’s body was found on a path in Linear Park in Kulcheth village. Police told CNN that she was found with fatal stab wounds.

Police initially said there was no evidence to suggest the circumstances surrounding Ghey’s death, before later adding that all lines of investigation were being explored, “Whether it was a hate crime”. ”

He added: “Brianna was such a lovely daughter, granddaughter and little sister. She was a larger than life character who left an indelible impression on everyone who met her. Brianna was beautiful, funny and hilarious. Brianna was strong, fearless, and one of a kind.

“The loss of her young life has left a huge hole in our family, and we know the teachers and friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.

“We want to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this extremely difficult time. We would like to thank the police for their support and the witnesses for helping with the investigation. The continued respect for privacy is greatly appreciated.

An online crowdfunding campaign has so far raised almost £90,000 ($109,000) for Ghee’s family. Those behind it say the funds raised will help pay for the funeral, which they expect to be “pink and colorful to match her personality”.

The allegations come a day after candlelight vigils were held for Ghe in the cities of Liverpool and Bristol, PA media reports, with more due to take place across the country in the coming days – including several planned for Wednesday.

Some events have been organized by trans rights and LGBT campaigners, including those planned for London, Manchester and the coastal city of Brighton on Wednesday.
