Brevard woman charged with running an unlicensed daycare where police say children have been hurt

A woman was arrested in Rockledge after police said she was running an unlicensed daycare where a boy was hurt last month. 37-year-old Jessica Bogoef appeared in court for the first time on Friday. Police said she ran daycare from her home and connected with families through parents’ groups on Facebook. She said she takes care of eight children at a time, including newborns. “We have no evidence of any of her childcare background, at least nothing formal and nothing has been channeled through the proper channels,” Deputy Police Chief Donna Seyfarth said. Seyfarth said police were investigating after two children were injured in Bogoef’s care. Last month, detectives said a boy at daycare had come home with serious bruises and bruises on his face, neck and spine. He said that he also suffered an injury on his thigh which looked like a hand mark. “She blamed the other kids. One kid is hurting the other,” Seyfarth said. “Well, once the kids separated from her, they were able to infer that she was the one who caused the injuries. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim said “Jessica did it” when her mother asked her how she was hurt. Bogoef’s defense attorney argued that point in court. Jay Thakkar said “My position is that merely saying, ‘I did it’ doesn’t really tell you whether it was intended or whether it was by accident or what actually happened.” Thakkar asked the judge whether Bogoef can be released on bail in one case, not both. “I am requesting to consider his lack of criminal history and given that he is already a lawyer,” he said. The judge denied the request after reviewing the alleged injuries. Over the phone, Thakkar told WESH 2 News that he denies any wrongdoing and wants to exonerate Bogoef of any criminal act. I intend to fight this case for Police said the unlicensed daycare is around at least December and they are concerned there could be more victims. Deputy Police Chief Seyfarth had this message for parents: “We sincerely wish that if they have any concerns, if they take their child there and their child suffers a mysterious injury, they may please.” Will reach us,” Seyfarth said. Bogoeff is due back in court next month.
