Bowen shuts down Saginaw Spirit as London Knights remain on top of Western Conference – London Globalnews.ca

London Knights rookie goaltender Zack Bowen made 26 saves for his first career Ontario Hockey League finish as the Knights beat the Saginaw Spirit 3-0 on Saturday night.

Late in the second period, Bowen completely robbed Hunter Height of the spirit. Haight grabbed the puck and cut into the net and dropped his forehand, but Bowen shot off his left foot and strengthened it to make the save. Bowen went into the net during the play but the puck stayed out.

The Kanata, Ontario, native made another heavy stop on Haight in the third period. With just over five minutes to go in the game, Bowen was there again as Zayne Parekh batted a puck out of the air on goal.

It was difficult to find clear nets all night, but London’s second man advantage of the night saw Logan Mailloux pull one right off the faceoff. He hit a wrist shot past New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox to score Mileux’s twelfth goal of the season and sixth in his last four games.

Ryan Winterton earned his first point as a Knight on the play. Oliver Bonk picked up the second assist. Bonk moved into a tie for third overall in OHL rookie scoring with Joey Willis of the Spirit.

Winterton and fellow former Hamilton Bulldog Ryan Humphrey registered their first goals for London late in the game as both scored empty netters to secure the Knights’ ninth consecutive win and 21st in their last 23 games.

London is now three points clear of first place overall in the Western Conference.

The Knights defeated Saginaw 29–26.
