BJP will contest all 60 assembly seats in Manipur, full list of candidates declared

The BJP will contest all 60 seats in the Manipur Assembly and on Sunday announced its full list of candidates for the February-March elections.

The list of candidates was released at the BJP state headquarters here and bears the signature of the party’s national general secretary Arun Singh.

Among the main candidates are Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who will contest from Hengang constituency, PWD minister Th Biswajit Singh from Thongju, Govinddas Konthoujam, former president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, who recently joined BJP from Bishnupur.

BJP has given party tickets to three women candidates and denied tickets to three sitting MLAs.

Seven MLAs who left the Congress and joined the BJP have been given nominations as per the list of candidates released on Sunday.

However, three Congress MLAs who resigned from the Congress and joined the saffron party were denied BJP tickets.

Assembly elections in the north eastern state will be held in two phases on February 27 and March 3. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
