BJP demands cancellation of tender for making animal enclosures in Byculla zoo

BJP The companies on Thursday sought cancellation of tenders for the construction of new animal enclosures at the Byculla zoo after bids of Rs 106 crore were higher than the estimated estimates.

BMC had floated two tenders last August. While one was for the conception and construction of eight animal enclosures for the black jaguar, cheetah, white lion, wallaby, chimpanzee, ringtail lemur, mandrill monkey and lesser flamingo, the other was for the construction of a space to display the Afro-A. was imported for. BMC has recently received bids from only two companies. The estimated cost of construction of animal enclosures as per the two tenders was Rs 91 crore and Rs 94 crore respectively, for which both the companies bid Rs 146 crore and Rs 145 crore respectively.

Alleging factionalism and rigging of tenders, BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha on Thursday demanded that the tenders be canceled and threatened agitation if the BMC did not do so.
