The authorities have banned the South Korean game maker’s favorite Battle Royale Sport Battleground Sail India (BGMI). crafton, The app has been removed by each Apple and Google App shops in India. While the BGMI app is not listed on the Apple app retailer and Google Play retailer, the federal government has not made a statement on banning the BGMI app to date. Apart from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Knowledge (MeitY) has not said anything formally regarding the ban on the BGMI app.

A Google spokesperson confirmed that the app has been removed following a government order. “Upon receipt of the order, following the established process, we have now notified the affected developer and blocked access to the app on Play retailer in India,” Google noted in an announcement from Google.

Crafton, on his part, said he was clarifying the ban with the government. “We are clarifying how BGMI was away from the Google Play retailer and app retailer and we can let you identify us as soon as we get specific data,” Kraton’s claim reads.
How PUBG became BGMI
BGMI has been removed almost two years after the ban on PUBG. The favorite Chinese language game was banned in September 2020 along with over 100 other apps. PUBG was banned for affiliation with Chinese-language author Tencent Video Games. According to the government, these apps are engaged in acts detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of the country, as well as posing a serious threat to the security of the state and the security of India. The government said these apps can perform espionage and surveillance activities through digital camera/mic, access good location (GPS) and perform malicious community activity like already blocked apps.
The ban on PUBG was a major blow to Crafton as India was one of the many great markets for the game maker. Many PUBG tournaments have been organized in India. Ban PUBG, Crafton downgrades its ties with Tencent Video Games. The company announced that China’s Tencent Video Games will not be authorized to distribute the PUBG Mobile franchise in India. In June 2021, Crafton launched BGMI with the tagline ‘Battle Grounds of India’. Earlier this month, the game crossed the 100 million download mark in India on the Google Play retailer.
