Bengaluru transport body to induct 565 BSVI buses by February 2022

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will induct 565 eco-friendly BSVI buses by February 2022. BMTC is procuring vehicles with the support of the Government of Karnataka.

BMTC officials inspect the first BSVI bus received from Ashok Leyland in Bengaluru on Saturday. Officials said that BMTC will be the first corporation to introduce BSVI buses in the state.

Apart from this, BMTC will operate 90 non-AC electric buses under the Smart City project.

BMTC procured 1,406 buses in 2017-18 and 361 buses in 2019-20. However, the buses were not procured in 2021-21 COVID-19 Difficulty.

Recently, BMTC unveiled Bengaluru’s first electric bus, which will run as a part of feeder service at Namma Metro stations and address the connectivity problems faced by metro commuters.

90 electric buses will be leased out by National Thermal Power Corporation, Vyapar Vidyut Nigam. Transport Minister Sriramulu had announced that the process of procuring an additional 300 buses would be expedited in the coming days.

Officials had said that JBM Auto Ltd would send 90 mini electric buses at a cost of Rs 130 crore under the project.

Now, BMTC has a fleet of 6,400 buses, which includes 860 AC buses, plying in the city of Bengaluru. Several buses also cover the route to Bengaluru airport.
