Bengaluru: The number of AC buses for the airport increased after the demand increased

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is gradually increasing the number of AC buses from different parts of the city to the airport after restricting services during this period. COVID-19 global pandemic.

BMTC’s Vayu Vajra buses, which ply between Kempegowda International Airport and other parts of the city, had resumed services from July 31 after being shut down due to the lockdown during the second wave of Covid-19.

A senior BMTC official said, “The number of buses operating to Bengaluru International Airport has been increased from 45 to 58. However, most of the fleet is still not operational.” Indian Express.

On Thursday, after the demand of the public, BMTC resumed seven AC buses on the route. With 860 AC airport buses in its fleet, BMTC is currently operating only 110. “We will continue to increase the number as per the demand,” the official said.

Meanwhile, around 5,000 regular non-AC buses are back on the roads in the city. Bus services to and from the airport were suspended on April 27 after Karnataka went into a second lockdown.

For the safety of passengers, BMTC announced that tickets for buses plying between different parts of the city and the airport can be booked online. BMTC has also announced digital ticketing wherein passengers are allowed to use any UPI service to pay for tickets using QR codes.

BMTC’s airport services were closed on 23 March and reopened only on 3 June.

Vayu Vajra (Volvo AC Buses) operated by BMTC caters to several major locations in Bengaluru. This is one of the most economical ways to reach the airport. Vayu Vajra buses charge no more than Rs 336 (inclusive of GST) for travel to Bengaluru airport, which is located at Devanahalli on the outskirts of the city.
