Bengaluru: Police seize 140 kg ganja being supplied through app-based delivery persons, 7 arrested

The Bengaluru Zonal Unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 140 kg of high grade marijuana being supplied door-to-door through app-based food delivery personnel. The NCB said that as a follow-up action, seven people, including the gang leader, were arrested.

According to Amit Gawate, zonal director of NCB’s Bengaluru unit, on Thursday, based on specific information, they apprehended two residents of Bengaluru while they were in the process of taking delivery of eight boxes of Contraband from a courier vehicle and loading it into a car. were in .

A thorough examination of the boxes revealed that the high-grade hemp was packed in paper packets wrapped with adhesive tape. The unit seized around 137 kg of ganja from their possession.

NCB officials also raided the residential premises of the accused and recovered cash worth Rs 4.81 lakh. A delivery boy was also caught. Further search of the residential premises of another accused resulted in the recovery of about 3 kg of ganja packed in small packets and cash worth Rs 39,000 with distinctive marks on them.

In a follow-up action, four persons, including the supplier of the banned substance, were on Friday taken into custody and three others were arrested after a speeding chase near Shivamogga in Karnataka. All three were traveling in a Jeep Compass car.

Smugglers booked consignments through couriers by giving the address of non-functional shops or other commercial establishments, instead of buying and procuring narcotics.

The kingpin, along with other associates, was operating large-scale drug cartels in Bengaluru city and its outskirts and delivering contraband to consumers through app-based delivery boys since the lockdown as such delivery personnel were exposed to restrictions.
