Bathinda Rural MLA left AAP: Party leadership upset with his performance

AAP MLA from Bathinda Rural, Rupinder Kaur Ruby resigns There are no surprises from the party as the AAP leadership was unhappy with his performance, and the popularity rating of AAP in his constituency has declined sharply.

Party sources said that Ruby is unlikely to be given the ticket again, and it was widely expected that she would part ways with the AAP. Ruby has been supporting AAP state president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann’s candidature as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2022 elections.

Ruby had said on record that AAP should announce Mann’s name as CM candidate at the earliest, else she will commit the same mistake she did in 2017 elections.

Ruby, who became an MLA for the first time, was the youngest AAP MLA to be elected to the Assembly in 2017 at the age of 29. With bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law, she was teaching law as an assistant professor before joining AAP in 2013. He defeated the SAD candidate from Bathinda Rural by over 10,000 votes in the 2017 elections.

It is widely expected that Rupinder Kaur Ruby will join another political party in the coming days. There are rumors that she was in touch with the SAD, though she denied it. Ruby has said that her long absence from her constituency was due to her father’s illness.

After the 2017 elections, AAP had 20 MLAs in the 117-member house. Baldev Singh, an MLA from Faridkot constituency, was recently disqualified by the Speaker of the Assembly after contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on the ticket of another party.

AAP MLA from Dakha HS Phoolka had also resigned, as did Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira. The Congress is accompanied by three more MLAs, including Nazar Singh Manshahia, Jagdev Singh and Piermal Singh Khalsa. With Ruby’s resignation from the party, the effective strength of AAP MLAs has gone up to 13, however, four rebels have not resigned as MLAs and continue to sit in the House on AAP benches.
