Australia’s PM Scott Morrison said, no decision yet on Novak Djokovic’s visa

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Thursday that his government has not yet decided on revoking tennis superstar Novak Djokovic’s visa.

Morrison told a news conference on the COVID-19 pandemic in Canberra that Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s earlier statement that he was considering whether to tear down the visa “has not changed”.

The Australian leader insisted it was a decision for Hawke, rejecting further comment.

Djokovic flew to Melbourne on 5 January hoping to claim a tenth Australian Open title.

The 34-year-old unvaccinated Serbian ace took the vaccine with him on December 16, claiming a positive PCR test result.

Border agents who rejected his exemption, saying that recent infection was an insufficient reason, tore his visa and placed him in a detention centre.

But vaccine-skeptic Djokovic’s high-powered legal team overturned Visa’s decision in court on Monday on a procedural matter related to his airport interview.
