Mahdi can hit a few late in an innings, and separates his legs here to attempt a pull, but it gets under the bat and hits him in front. The umpire calls, and a review says the umpire’s call on the edge of the leg stump.

Shamim show is over. Zampa turns the bat and tries his googly on the left-hander and Shamim’s cut shot makes contact with the edge of the bat. Wade took a good catch.

10th over: Bangladesh 58-5 (Mahmudullah 12, Shamim 19) Cummins starts bowling short and short on Shamim’s body and this keeps him calm. Dribbs from the over and four runs in dribs. Still scoring more consecutive runs than any other Bangladesh player.

9th over: Bangladesh 54-5 (Mahmudullah 11, Shamim 16) A bright moment for Bangladesh and Shamim Hits Zampa for a six. Slog-sweep the left-hander, turn the ball back toward him, and give him all over the long side of the field. Boundary riders out, but he finds both the gap and hauls the rope. Degree of Difficulty: High.

8th over: Bangladesh 47-5 (Mahmudullah 11, Shamim 9) Stark again, and this is a very Stark kind of over. A pair of wides, one overpitch that Shamim slams to the ground for four, another goes over deep cover for a couple. Today no Australian bowler has given consecutive overs.

7th over: Bangladesh 38-5 (Mahmudullah 9, Shamim 4) At least Shamim Hussain looks ready upon arrival, picking up two more from Zampa immediately. Australia could be ready for a huge increase in the net run rate if they can finish the second half of the Bangla batting line-up.

Second! Cummins is actually a leftover. Zampa took a wicket on the first ball. Leg-spin 101: First throws a googly to a left-hander, who strikes him and sideways to slip him. Finch can attack with the same score as he is, and has positioned himself in that catching spot. Thick edge going sharply at shoulder height, held up well.

6th over: Bangladesh 33-4 (Mahmudullah 8, Afif 0) End of powerplay, 4 for 33. Big work ahead of Bangladesh from here.

When it fills up, Naeem looks great, dreamily driving Hazlewood through cover for four. Short, though he tries to take, gets a limp type top edge which comes inside the circle with the midwicket fielder.

5th over: Bangladesh 28-3 (Naeem 13, Mahmudullah 8) One good, one bad. The pattern repeats, as Mahmudullah nails Starc with a pull shot through midwicket before poking for the keeper’s four wide and getting a thick lead.

4th over: Bangladesh 19-3 (Naeem 12, Mahmudullah 0) Cummins to bowl, as Australia keep rotating their bowlers. He is the first player who does not get a wicket immediately. Not too far away, as Mohamed Naeem shows Steve Smith driving to backward point. But Naeem finds the fence with style, with a very controlled shot through cover.

3rd over: Bangladesh 10-3 (Naeem 3, Mahmudullah 0) One wicket per over at this time.

One more, and that is the most important. Mushfiqur Rahim has been Bangladesh’s best player in this tournament. He matters the most. Starc’s swing is replaced by Maxwell’s off-spin, and the all-rounder puts some rev on the ball and swings it outside the off-stump. It hits Mushi with off, and the turn is so slight that the ball is going down the middle. No reviews.

2nd over: Bangladesh 6-2 (Naeem 1) Another chop-on. Different style, this one, Hazlewood bowled the length as he usually does. The left-hander only reaches for it trying to run away from a single to deep third, and instead cuts it on the bounce and into his stumps. Hits a pull shot over the fence in that over, but it ends with his wicket.

1st over: Bangladesh 2-1 (Naim 1, Sarkar 1) No, that score is not a discount deal. It’s two runs, one wicket.

Went in the first over! In-swing, full and moving from Starc, and though the line starts across the right hand, the movement takes his inside edge as he drives, deflecting it back to stump.
