Attack on Pakula police during mediation in fight, 9 injured

At least nine Panchkula police personnel, including an inspector, were injured in a clash between police parties and two families in the Rajiv Colony slum in the early hours of Thursday.
At least one policeman is said to have been seriously injured due to a fracture in his wrist.

According to police details, around 3 am on Thursday, police reached the spot to break up a fight between two neighbours. However, they faced hostility as both the families united to attack the police with stones, wooden sticks and sharp weapons. PS 14’s SHO, Inspector Rajiv Miglani, said they had to fire in the air “in self-defence”. Miglani was also injured in the attack.

Two families were pelting stones at each other in Rajiv Colony. When the police team reached the spot, both the groups started pelting stones at us too. The miscreants also used sticks, knives, rods and other deadly weapons on the police teams. Due to poor visibility and narrow lanes at night, they managed to escape. Nine of our policemen suffered minor injuries except one of our constables who had broken wrists. We have registered a case and the investigation is on,” Miglani told the press.

The police also used drones to investigate the matter. Police said the houses of the accused were searched and several sticks and sharp-edged weapons were seized.

According to the police, an old enmity and struggle for supremacy in the area led to a violent clash between the two families.

Police also conducted flag march through Rajiv Colony to mark their presence and maintain law and order situation in the area.

A case has been registered against 13 people of both the families.
Of the 13 people, eight, including three women, were arrested. Six belong to one group and two are from another group. The arrested accused include Sumer, Sanjay, Meeto, Savita, Usha, Sahil and Vicky, residents of Rajiv Colony, and Kulwinder, resident of Mauli Jagran.
