Arora security guard saved after falling in 15 foot pit

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) — A 25-year-old man was rescued Wednesday morning after he fell into a deep hole in the western suburbs.

Aurora fire officials said a private security guard at Factor Foods, a packaged meal prep company, was walking around a strip mall on Aurora’s far west side when he fell about 15 feet into a hole that was used for utility work. was dug up and stuck, just before 12:15

Officials said he shouted to his colleague for help and it took two hours for 20 different rescue agencies to rescue the man near the Indian Trail and Orchard roads.

“Yeah, we were concerned about the side walls of the trench to make sure it was safe for us to enter the hole. We didn’t want to harm anyone so what we did was we sanded both sides of the hole. Did it. And went to evacuate the patient,” said Jason Demas, chief of the Aurora Fire Department battalion.

The security guard was then taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where his condition was stated to be critical.

The man was conscious and talking to rescuers when he was taken to the hospital, but he suffered unidentified injuries to his lower extremity.
